Are your horses S.A.D?
Independent studies have shown that horses are just as susceptible to a reduction in sunlight as humans and can indeed suffer from depression/ S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder). Some of the signs of S.A.D in people, that have also been observed in horses include, lethargy, fatigue, feeling depressed, difficulty in concentrating, irritability, irregular seasons and difficulty breeding.
Light is the most important environmental factor that controls the Circadian Rhythm (body clock), it influences many of the body’s biological activities and seasonal cycles. Its effect on mammal's that breed seasonally, such as the horse, is clear.
During the winter months 15Nov – 15 Jan, horses need to be exposed to a minimum of 11 hours of sunlight per day, (suggested 7am - 6pm) for their body clocks to function correctly.
At anytime of year in the Northern Hemisphere, we struggle to expose our horses to enough sunlight, but especially in the winter months and when turnout is impossible due to the weather.

Each HorseLight delivers the correct spectrum of white and blue light, that positively impacts the horse’s body clock. This cannot be achieved by standard LED or fluorescent lighting
HorseLight’s industry leading white and blue light, automatic stable lighting systems, are used by riders, owners, trainers and studs all over the world, to help mitigate the effects of depression/S.A.D, helping to enrich and enhance equine health and performance, at the flick of a switch!!
